What is marriage? what is the purpose of marriage? why did God established this institution called marriage? How can two people from different family background come together and enjoy their relationship as husband and wife? These and many more question are what we need to ask ourselves and make sure we know before embarking on this journey of marriage.
It is not compulsory for everybody to marry. 1 Corinthians 7:8-9 ''I speak now to those who are not married. I also speak to widows. It is good for you to stay single like me. But if you can’t control yourselves, you should get married. It is better to get married than to burn with desire'' It is better not to married than to sin against God.
Is a pity to see people nowadays rushing into marriage without even know what they are going there to do. Some believed that when they get married they have reach their relaxation center. Some people don't qualify for marriage but they force themselves to it just because they want to do what other people are doing. In life, before you take any action or do anything you have to know the implication of the action you are taken. That will tells you whether to do it or not or how to do it better.
Before going into marriage we need to seek knowledge and the wisdom of God that will lead us through in our marital life. As a Spinster, Bachelor and married man or woman, We need to be attending marriage seminar, family forum, Reading marriage inspirational books and reading the word of God. Bible says in Hosea 4:6 ''My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children''. ''James 1:5 But if any one of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all freely and reproaches not, and it shall be given to him''.
Marriage is enjoyable and not endurable provided you know what it entails and the rules. Some of the rules are: You must have true love to your spouse as Christ loves the church. Your must be submissive to your husband. You must respect each others. You must give room for God in your marriage. You must trust your spouse. You must not over jealous. You must live in peace with your spouse. You must accept him or her as your own flesh because if you can not hurt your flesh, you won't hurt your spouse. You must not give room for argument in your marriage and you have to be patient. If one is fire the other must be water to quench it. See what lack of impatience can lead someone to here
But if you can not follow the rules, there is no need for you to get marry because if you do, there will always be problem with your marriage. Some people are praying day and night in the churches or mountains for happy home, but no amount of prayer they can pray that will be answered because they failed to recognize what is waging war against their marriage which is their CHARACTER. Until they discover that and amend their character before they can have happy home.
Another thing is that, It is better not to marry than to marry somebody that you will be having problem with in your life. When I heard the incident that happen between Nigerians couple in USA it baffles me. When a woman stab her husband and the woman was arrested. Nobody knows what the outcome will be. Why do you need to get married and later regret it for the rest of your life?. We have to be very careful in our marriage and be prayerful so that we won't allow devil to use us against our spouse and any other person.
